- שַׁתָּםm. (preced.) one known to be skilled in boring and stealing wine. Tosef.Ab. Zar. VII (VIII), 14 יין אצל גוי הש׳וכ׳ ed. Zuck. (oth. ed. מהסתם, הסתמם, corrupt. of המְשַׁתֵּם) if one deposited wine with a gentile who is known as an expert borer, it is forbidden (v. נֶסֶךְ).
